About Marc T. Huber

My practice is restricted to civil litigation and commercial litigation. Most of my clients emanate through referrals from former clients, or other lawyers. While I have acted for large corporations, insurance companies and a bank, most of my clients are entrepreneurial business owners looking for a more economical and accessible option than large, impersonal, Bay Street firms; or, ordinary people facing complicated legal problems - and quite often in a David and Goliath dynamic. Both businesspersons and individuals recognize that sometimes, a lawyer from another street's culture needs to be retained instead of a conservative Bay Street firm.

Being in private practice, I am personally responsible for fiercely prosecuting, or vigorously defending, all of my clients' cases. Whether it is a simple collection matter; or, a vituperative and polycentric legal dispute involving millions of dollars, as your advocate I apply the same amount of energy, enthusiasm, legal research and relentless dedication to each case because as Lord Denning once observed, "litigation is not a tea party."

I attended the University of Toronto and was one of the editors of The Varsity. After graduating from Osgoode Hall Law School in, 1986, I articled on Bay Street for Melvyn Solmon (Solmon Rothbart Goodman). While invited to return to my former firm after my, 1998, call to the bar, I accepted a position as a research-policy officer with the Ontario Human Rights Commission ("OHRC"). I wrote reports for the OHRC on medically-related employment absenteeism and on HIV-related discrimination. Recommendations from both reports were adopted as OHRC policy. At the OHRC, I also conducted extensive research on insurance companies' pre-existing condition coverage exclusions for disability insurance policies.

I believe in constant communication with my clients to educate and inform them about their legal problems while simultaneously attempting to demystify the process. You will be provided with copies of all materials. A fast-track initiative as an attempt to provide an economical and expeditious resolution will always be explored. Many legal problems can quite often be solved through an exchange of letters; thereby, avoiding the expense, time and frustration associated with court proceedings. I have written numerous freelance articles for publications such as Canadian Lawyer, Law Times, Canadian Business, The Globe and Mail and Maclean's and was awarded two print media human rights awards.

A law library is a lawyer's laboratory. As a creative and energetic advocate for my clients, every viable legal avenue is always explored and carefully researched in order to protect their position. Considering that I am often retained to act on cases involving complex, legal issues, this is a common practice for me.

I have substantial expertise with debtor's rights, collections, debtor-creditor law, shareholder disputes, assessing other lawyers' accounts, disputes with schools, contract problems and negligence issues, insolvency, real estate and construction litigation, employment and labour law, disability insurance, human rights, and freedom of information/privacy issues, along with being periodically retained by clients regarding their taxation problems. Further, I have been retained by clients to obtain injunctive relief such as Mareva Orders, in addition to prosecuting motions seeking judicial findings of contempt.

In 2007, I organized a miniature golf tournament and rock concert for SickKids Foundation. I have also been a director of Making Faces, a non-profit organization assisting children with facial differences in addition to being a member of Hemophilia Ontario Toronto Region's Services Committee.
