About Douglas H. Hancock

Douglas H. Hancock is a founding partner at Daigle & Hancock. He has extensive experience in business law, insolvency practice and real estate. Douglas is a graduate of Carleton University where he was awarded the Mercy Neal Southam and Duchess of Connaught Scholarships and where he received his B.A. (With Distinction) in 1983. He studied law at the University of Toronto, graduating with an LL.B. in 1986 and was called to the Bar for the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1988. Douglas graduated with an LL.M. from the University of Strathclyde Glasgow (With Distinction) in November 2001. He now holds a J.D. from the University of Toronto in lieu of an LL.B.

Douglas has practised throughout his career in the City of Mississauga with Keyser Mason Ball (1988-91), Barlow & Hancock (1991-1995) and Daigle & Hancock (1995-present).

Business Law - Douglas has acted on behalf of clients in all aspects of financial, commercial and investment matters, including: preparing and providing advice on investor’s agreements and arranging bank financing and debentures; advising on share and asset acquisitions and sales; advising on private and public equity financings, employee share ownership plans; negotiating and drafting terms of loan and credit facilities, advising on PPSA registration and compliance; recommending proper corporate structuring based on taxation, financial and investment criteria for companies, societies, partnerships and joint ventures; advising on and implementing amalgamations, mergers, reorganizations and takeovers.

Insolvency Practice - Douglas assists in handling banking and insolvency litigation issues involving priority, vetting security, enforceability, realization, bankruptcies, insolvency proceedings and insolvency issues related to excise tax (G.S.T.) and sales tax (P.S.T.).

Commercial Property - Douglas aids clients in the acquisition and financing of real estate, including obtaining the requisite government approvals with respect to real estate.

Commercial Leasing - Douglas supports clients in the negotiation and preparation of all leasing documents whether ground, commercial or industrial leases. He also advises landlords and tenants concerning their rights and provides assistance in obtaining the appropriate remedies.

Residential Real Estate - Douglas helps clients in all aspects of sales and purchases of their personal residences including mortgage financing, rent control issues and all related matters.

Wills and Estates - Douglas helps clients in estate planning and will preparation as well the establishment of trusts, Powers of Attorney for Property and Powers of Attorney for Personal Care.
